Message of Gratitude from Fr. Bill
NEW PARKING LOTS & DRIVEWAYS
We thank everyone for their generous financial support that made our new parking lots and driveways possible. Also thank you everyone for your patience and understanding during this important project that will last us for another 50 years if not 100!!! Our original lot (55 years old) had 1.5 inches of asphalt and our new lot 3 inches, so it could last 100 years!!!
PAINTING & MARKING CLEANUP
There are a few minor areas where the contractor will change or add a few arrows, lines, etc. to finalize the re-painting. This will take place over the next few months, depending on when we “slurry seal” the new lot.
Also known as a “Silk Seal” the slurry seal is completed after the new lot has had a little time to “cure” or to set in place. This can happen anytime from one month to a year later; as of now we do not have date. When it happens the lots & driveways will be closed again for 2 to 3 days to seal them and then re-paint. We will give you advance notice.
A slurry seal is advised every 3 to 5 years, depending on use and climate. Of course it is much quicker and very inexpensive compared to a re-surface project. The regular re-slurry process protects the lot and maintains it for long term use: 50 years if not 100!!!
HANDICAPPED SPACES + SENIOR PARKING
The handicapped spaces nearest the church remain and meet the California Code for handicapped spaces. We ask everyone to please respect these spaces and thus to respect the handicapped of our parish.
SENIOR PARKING ONLY
The now former handicapped spaces across the lane have been changed to “Senior Parking Only”. Why? The now former spaces DID NOT comply with state law and if there was ever an accident, our liability as a parish would be greatly increased.
One of the major concerns was that the blue painted walkway went behind cars, a safety issue and in violation of the state code for handicapped spaces. Plus the spaces were too short and to lengthen them, the first lane of parking would have to be one-way, but connected to the beautiful two-way circular drive in front of our Welcome Plaza, changing the rest of the lane to one-way would be impossible.
PLEASE RESEPCT SENIOR PARKING FOR ALL HANDICAPPED
While the new spaces are marked for seniors, we ask the favor that everyone please honor these spaces for the handicapped of all ages, to give them additional parking space near the church building, even though a handicapped placard is not required.
We also ask you to please drive very slowly especially in this first lane of parking, to help our older friends and our friends with handicaps. Thank you very much.
